Iran Establishes Maritime Routes for Iraqi Oil Tankers in Hormuz Strait

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has revealed that Iran is working to establish designated maritime routes for Iraqi oil tankers passing through the strategic Hormuz Strait. This initiative aims to enhance navigation safety and streamline oil transport in the region.

In an interview with Iraqi Al-Ikhbariya channel, Araqchi emphasized the importance of cooperation between Iran and Oman in developing these shipping lanes. He noted that the initiative reflects Iran’s commitment to facilitating trade and ensuring the smooth passage of vessels in one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.

The establishment of these routes could have significant implications for regional trade dynamics, particularly for Iraq, which relies heavily on oil exports. By improving navigation for oil tankers, Iran seeks to bolster its economic ties with Iraq and enhance its influence in the region amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Looking ahead, further discussions between Iranian and Omani officials are expected to take place to finalize the maritime routes. This development may also prompt reactions from other regional players concerned about the implications for maritime security and oil supply chains.
