NHA Toll Revenue Doubles as Highways Outperform Motorway Collections

ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) reports a remarkable surge in toll tax revenue, which has more than doubled over the past five years, climbing from Rs35,063 million in 2021-22 to an anticipated Rs85,714 million by 2025-26. This increase highlights a significant shift in revenue generation, particularly as collections from highways have outpaced those from motorways.

Despite a dip in collections to Rs33,399 million in 2022-23 and a further decline to Rs32,068 million in 2023-24, the NHA rebounded impressively with toll revenues reaching Rs64,423 million in 2024-25. This recovery underscores the resilience of highway infrastructure and its growing importance in the national economy.

The implications of this revenue growth are substantial for both the government and citizens. Enhanced toll revenues can lead to improved maintenance and expansion of road networks, which is crucial for facilitating trade and transportation across the country. As the NHA continues to optimize its collection strategies, the increased funds could also support broader economic initiatives.

Looking ahead, the NHA plans to implement further enhancements in toll collection systems and infrastructure upgrades. Stakeholders are keenly observing how these developments will influence future revenue streams and overall transportation efficiency in Pakistan.
