Senate Panel Summons ASF Official Over Alleged Passenger Mistreatment
ISLAMABAD: A Senate committee has raised serious concerns regarding the alleged mistreatment of passengers by Airports Security Force (ASF) personnel at Karachi’s airport. During a meeting on Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges directed that the relevant ASF official be summoned to address these allegations at the next session.
The committee, chaired by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, convened to discuss various privilege motions, including one presented by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri. The motion highlighted inappropriate conduct by ASF staff during security checks involving parliamentarians and other passengers. The committee reviewed a response to an inquiry report it had requested last month, which indicated that the implicated official had been transferred to a different posting.
Senator Saadia Abbasi underscored the importance of addressing the issue, emphasizing that such conduct undermines public trust in security protocols at airports. The committee’s deliberations reflect a growing concern over the treatment of passengers and the need for accountability within the ASF.
Moving forward, the committee plans to summon the ASF official to provide clarity on the allegations and discuss measures to prevent future incidents. This development may have broader implications for airport security practices and the relationship between security personnel and the public.
