Pakistan Unveils National Mental Health Policy 2026-2035 at Summit
ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has officially launched the National Mental Health Policy 2026-2035, targeting over 32.4 million individuals in need of mental health care. This significant policy was unveiled during the Global Mental Health Summit held in Islamabad on October 1-2, 2023.
Developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations, the policy aims to enhance mental health services across the country. Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel emphasized the importance of mental health, stating, “This policy is a crucial step towards addressing the mental health crisis in Pakistan, ensuring that millions receive the care they deserve.”
The implications of this policy are profound, as it seeks to destigmatize mental health issues and improve access to care, which has historically been limited in Pakistan. By prioritizing mental health, the government aims to foster a healthier society, ultimately contributing to the nation’s overall well-being and productivity.
Looking ahead, the government plans to implement various initiatives under this policy, including training programs for healthcare professionals and awareness campaigns to educate the public about mental health. Further discussions are expected in upcoming health forums to refine and expand the policy’s reach.
