Bayern Munich Coach Vincent Kompany Hospitalized After Training Collapse
MUNICH: Bayern Munich’s head coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalized on Friday after collapsing during a training session with the club’s reserve team. The incident prompted an emergency medical response, and the club confirmed that Kompany is currently undergoing thorough examinations and will remain under medical care.
Kompany, a 40-year-old former defender for Manchester City, had already missed training and a press conference earlier in the week ahead of Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal. Following the Arsenal game, he revealed that he had been battling a severe virus, stating, “I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn’t listen to my body — and then at some point my body just said, ‘enough is enough!’”
Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized the club’s commitment to Kompany’s health, declaring, “The health of our coach is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he recovers quickly. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs.” Meanwhile, the coaching staff will assume his responsibilities during his recovery.
The situation raises concerns about the physical demands placed on coaches and players alike, especially during a rigorous season. As Bayern prepares for crucial matches in both domestic and European competitions, the club will closely monitor Kompany’s condition and provide updates on his recovery.
