PESHAWAR: Dengue fever cases continue to escalate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the provincial tally reaching 4,856 as of October, the peak month for infections. On Sunday alone, 51 new cases were reported, highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures.

The Integrated Diseases Surveillance and Response System (IDSRS) at the Directorate General Health Services of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has documented 2,244 cases in October. Kohat leads the districts with 2,822 infections, followed by Peshawar with 611 cases and Khyber with 430. Other districts, including Bannu, Haripur, and Abbottabad, have reported lower numbers, but the situation remains concerning.

Health experts express alarm over the rising infection rates, particularly in Kohat, which has become a focal point for anti-dengue efforts. The spread of the virus poses significant health risks to the population, necessitating immediate action from local health authorities to curb further outbreaks.

In response to the alarming rise in cases, health officials are expected to convene meetings to discuss enhanced preventive strategies, including public awareness campaigns and increased vector control measures. The community’s cooperation will be crucial in combating this public health challenge.
