Karachi Police Arrest Suspect Who Robbed 59 Job Seekers of Mobiles
KARACHI: Law enforcement authorities in the provincial capital have apprehended a prime suspect involved in an elaborate employment fraud scheme after luring nearly 60 female job seekers to a remote venue and absconding with their cellular devices, police officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The successful operation, executed by the Gadap City Police station team, led to the arrest of the main accused, identified as Babar alias Salman. According to preliminary investigative findings, the suspect had enticed 59 women to a private farmhouse in the outskirts of Gadap under the guise of conducting interviews for lucrative job opportunities. Upon their arrival at the location, the accused collected smartphones from all applicants under the pretext of strictly enforced security procedures and administrative protocols before fleeing the premises unnoticed, leaving the candidates stranded.
The brazen theft has raised widespread alarm regarding fraudulent recruitment networks exploiting unemployment and economic vulnerabilities across major urban centers in Pakistan. Legal experts and civil society groups have repeatedly warned job seekers against unverified employment advertisements, particularly those instructing candidates to gather at non-commercial or secluded venues, emphasizing the urgent necessity for enhanced cyber oversight and public awareness to mitigate such deceptive criminal practices.
Police authorities confirmed that formal legal charges have been registered against the arrested suspect, with active interrogation underway to locate and recover the stolen mobile devices. Senior officers stated that investigators are currently probing whether the accused operated independently or served as part of a larger organized criminal syndicate involved in systematic fraud and illicit electronics trafficking across the province.
