Govt Maintains Wheat Reserves of 6 Million Tonnes to Ensure Supply Stability
ISLAMABAD: Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain announced on Monday that the government will maintain strategic wheat reserves of up to 6 million tonnes, ensuring that there will be no shortage of wheat in Pakistan this year. The minister emphasized that adequate arrangements are in place to meet the national requirements.
During a press conference in Islamabad, Hussain stated, “This will help ensure uninterrupted supplies and protect the country against potential market disruptions.” His comments come shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif revealed an indicative price of Rs4,500 per maund of wheat for 2027, marking a Rs1,000 increase from the previous year.
The government’s commitment to maintaining substantial wheat reserves is crucial for stabilizing food prices and ensuring food security in the country. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the risks associated with market fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, which have been a concern for consumers and farmers alike.
Looking ahead, the government plans to monitor the wheat supply closely and will continue to engage with stakeholders in the agricultural sector to ensure that the needs of the population are met. Further announcements regarding agricultural policies and support for farmers are expected in the coming weeks.
