FBR Revises Customs Values for Imported Firearms Amid Regulatory Changes
KARACHI: Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a revision of customs values for three types of imported firearms, as per Valuation Ruling No. 2121/2026. The new ruling sets the customs value of the Norinco CF98 9mm pistol at $140 per piece, while another variant of the same model is valued at $134 per piece.
This decision comes as part of the FBR’s ongoing efforts to streamline customs processes and ensure fair valuation of imported goods. An official from the Directorate General of Customs Valuation stated, “The revised values reflect current market conditions and aim to curb undervaluation practices that have been prevalent in the firearms import sector.”
The implications of this ruling are significant for both importers and the broader economy. By establishing clearer customs values, the FBR aims to enhance revenue collection and reduce discrepancies in firearm imports. This move may also impact the pricing of firearms in the local market, potentially leading to increased costs for consumers.
Looking ahead, stakeholders in the firearms industry are expected to adapt to these new valuations, with discussions likely to arise regarding compliance and enforcement. The FBR has indicated that further reviews may be conducted to ensure that customs values remain aligned with international standards.
