ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Laghari announced on October 27, 2026, that the overall recovery rate for electricity bills has surpassed 97%, with distribution companies in Punjab achieving a 100% recovery target.

Speaking at the National Energy Summit held at NUST University, Laghari emphasized the significant progress made in the energy sector, attributing the success to improved management and operational efficiencies within the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and distribution companies. He stated, “Our commitment to enhancing the electricity recovery process is yielding positive results, ensuring that we can meet our energy demands more effectively.”

This achievement is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country’s economy, as improved recovery rates can lead to better financial stability for energy providers and potentially lower electricity costs for consumers. The minister highlighted that this progress is crucial for sustaining energy supply and reducing the burden on the national exchequer.

Looking ahead, the Energy Ministry plans to continue monitoring recovery rates and implement further reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency in the energy sector. Upcoming meetings with stakeholders are scheduled to discuss strategies for maintaining and improving these recovery rates.
