ISLAMABAD: In a strategic move to enhance the country’s export capabilities, a sub-committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a 120-day deadline to devise a comprehensive roadmap for expanding shrimp farming and improving value addition in the sector.

During a meeting chaired by Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, officials from provincial fisheries departments and relevant federal institutions convened to discuss the development of a coordinated strategy aimed at transforming aquaculture into a competitive, export-oriented industry. The initiative is part of a broader 24-month implementation and review process designed to bolster the sector.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to achieving export-led economic growth, which has been identified as a top priority by PM Shehbaz. The current federal budget has been structured to support this objective, reflecting a significant focus on enhancing the country’s trade balance through increased exports.

Looking ahead, the sub-committee is expected to hold further meetings to refine the roadmap and ensure that all stakeholders are aligned in their efforts to boost shrimp production and export capabilities. The success of this initiative could have far-reaching implications for the economy, potentially creating jobs and increasing foreign exchange earnings.
