Govt Expands Petrol Subsidy to Include 5 Million More Beneficiaries
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has agreed in principle to expand its targeted petroleum subsidy, aiming to include diesel and an additional five million beneficiaries. This decision emerged from discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman at the PM House.
The agreement signifies a strategic move to alleviate the financial burden on citizens amid rising fuel prices. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of this subsidy in providing relief to the most vulnerable segments of society. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman expressed optimism about the initiative, stating that it reflects the government’s commitment to addressing economic challenges faced by the populace.
This expansion of the subsidy is expected to have significant implications for the economy, potentially stabilizing fuel prices and reducing inflationary pressures. It also highlights the government’s focus on social welfare amidst ongoing economic reforms and challenges.
Technical committees from both sides are set to convene to finalize the details of the subsidy expansion. The government aims to implement this initiative promptly, with further announcements anticipated in the coming weeks.
