Online Bike Rider Arrested in Lahore for Harassing Female Passenger

Online Bike Rider Harassment

LAHORE: Lahore Police have arrested an online ride-hailing bike rider in the Johar Town area for allegedly harassing a young female passenger on a moving motorcycle and forcing her to jump off to protect herself, law enforcement officials confirmed on Wednesday. The arrested suspect has been identified by authorities as Muhammad Naeem.

According to initial police reports, the incident occurred after the victim booked a commute through a popular ride-sharing mobile application. During the journey, the accused allegedly began making inappropriate advances and physically harassing the woman. Fearing for her safety while the vehicle sped through traffic, the terrified passenger was forced to leap off the moving motorcycle, sustaining minor injuries before local bystanders rushed to render assistance.

The horrific episode has reignited intense public debate regarding passenger safety, strict background verification, and vetting protocols for drivers employed by commercial ride-hailing services across Pakistan. Civil rights advocates and citizens have repeatedly urged regulatory authorities and tech platforms to enforce stringent background checks and integrate real-time emergency features to curb predatory behavior against female commuters in major metropolitan hubs.

Following the registration of a formal complaint, Johar Town police officers swiftly tracked down the suspect using digital location data and apprehended him. Police officials stated that a case under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code pertaining to harassment and endangerment has been registered against the suspect, with further legal proceedings currently underway.
