Pakistan Rejects Afghan Claims on Angoor Adda Incident as Falsehoods

Angoor Adda incident

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan has categorically dismissed claims made by Afghanistan’s defence ministry regarding an incident at the Angoor Adda border area, labeling them as a “fabrication of lies.” The statement comes in the wake of reported unprovoked fire from Afghan security forces on Pakistani military posts and civilian areas on Tuesday, which resulted in one local fatality and five injuries.

In its response, the Afghan defence ministry alleged that Pakistani military personnel initiated drone strikes on the Angoor Adda bazaar and the commissioner’s office in Paktika province without provocation. They further claimed that Afghan forces retaliated against a nearby Pakistani military base, asserting that Pakistan was the aggressor in this situation.

This escalation in border tensions raises significant concerns for regional stability and the safety of civilians living in these contested areas. The Pakistani government’s swift rebuttal underscores its commitment to defending its territory and maintaining peace along the border, while also highlighting the ongoing complexities of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.

Moving forward, both nations may need to engage in dialogue to de-escalate tensions and prevent further incidents. Observers are calling for diplomatic efforts to address the underlying issues that contribute to such conflicts, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established border protocols.
