Harry Kane Watches Bayern Munich Dominate Magdeburg in German Cup Clash
MUNICH: Newly-crowned Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane remained on the bench as Bayern Munich secured a commanding 6-1 victory over second-tier Magdeburg in the German Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday. The match showcased Bayern’s depth and attacking prowess, with multiple players contributing to the scoreline.
Michael Olise starred for Bayern, netting two goals, while Ismael Saibari, Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown, and 17-year-old David Santos Daiber also found the back of the net. Before the match, Kane received a guard of honour from his teammates, as 75,000 fans at the Allianz Arena celebrated his recent Ballon d’Or triumph in London.
In a positive turn of events, Bayern’s coach Vincent Kompany was discharged from the hospital after collapsing during training last week. Brown expressed the team’s dedication to winning for Kompany, stating, “It’s really good that he’s back home now. He should get some rest, but hopefully we’ll see him again soon.”
Bayern’s dominance was evident as Olise opened the scoring in the 10th minute, tapping in a close-range effort from Saibari. Despite a brief equalizer from Magdeburg’s Mateusz Zukowski, Bayern quickly regained control, with Olise assisting Saibari for the second goal and converting a penalty for the third. The victory not only advances Bayern in the tournament but also reinforces their status as a formidable force in German football.
