Arrest Warrants Issued for Sohail Afridi and PTI Leaders in Terror Case
PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court has issued arrest warrants for Sohail Afridi, the former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with four other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in connection with the Radio Pakistan attack case. The court’s decision came on Wednesday as part of ongoing legal proceedings against those allegedly involved in the incident.
The supplementary charge-sheet submitted by the prosecution included names of Afridi, former provincial ministers Taimoor Saleem Jhagra and Kamran Bangash, PTI Peshawar district president Irfan Saleem, and party activist Amir Khan Chamkani. Notably, these individuals were not initially mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) or the original charge-sheet. The hearing was adjourned until October 28 due to the absence of the presiding judge, Wali Mohammad Khan.
This development raises significant concerns regarding the accountability of political figures in Pakistan, particularly in the context of rising political tensions and security challenges. The issuance of arrest warrants signals a serious approach by the judiciary towards addressing allegations of terrorism and violence, which have plagued the region.
As the case progresses, the court has mandated the police to execute the warrants under Section 204 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Legal experts anticipate that the upcoming hearings will further clarify the roles of the accused in the Radio Pakistan attack and may lead to broader implications for the PTI party amidst its ongoing political struggles.
