Karachi Court Sentences Two Kacha Bandits to Double Death Penalty
KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi has sentenced two notorious dacoits from the riverine ‘Kacha’ region to double death penalties, marking the first formal conviction of Kacha criminals in the metropolis. The tribunal found the accused brothers, identified as Riaz and Eijaz, guilty of kidnapping two brothers for ransom, engaging in an armed encounter with police forces, and attempted murder.
According to prosecution details presented before the court, the convicts abducted two brothers from Karachi and demanded a hefty ransom for their release. Following a targeted intelligence-led operation, police forces intercepted the suspects, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire before the culprits were apprehended. The court ruled that the evidence provided by law enforcement agencies and forensic experts conclusively established the duo’s involvement in terrorism, armed assault, and extortion, leading to the landmark capital punishment verdict alongside heavy monetary fines.
The historic ruling is being viewed as a major breakthrough for Sindh’s judicial and law enforcement apparatus, which has long struggled to dismantle the entrenched network of riverine dacoits operating across Upper Sindh and southern Punjab. Historically, criminal syndicates from the Kacha region have utilized urban centers like Karachi to execute high-profile kidnappings before retreating into inaccessible riverine hideouts. Law enforcement officials believe this conviction sends a stern deterrence message to organized criminal networks attempting to expand operations into urban centers.
Following the verdict, the convicts were remanded back to prison under strict security protocols to await the execution of their sentences, subject to their constitutional right to appeal before the Sindh High Court. Meanwhile, provincial authorities have pledged to intensify joint intelligence operations across Karachi and rural Sindh to completely eliminate remaining hideouts and dismantle criminal networks targeting citizens.
