FCC Issues Guidelines to Expedite Land Consolidation and Reduce Litigation

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has issued new guidelines aimed at preventing prolonged land litigation, following concerns over a case that has lingered for nearly 40 years. Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan emphasized that lengthy lawsuits undermine property rights and defeat the purpose of land consolidation.

During a session on Thursday, the FCC directed revenue authorities, particularly the Punjab Board of Revenue, to expedite consolidation proceedings within statutory timelines. The court’s remarks came while addressing a civil petition filed by Khaliqus Zaman, which challenged a previous Lahore High Court order that had remanded the case back to the revenue authority.

The implications of these guidelines are significant for landowners across the region, as they aim to streamline the consolidation process and protect proprietary rights. By reducing unnecessary delays, the FCC seeks to enhance the efficiency of land management and ensure that property rights are upheld.

Moving forward, the FCC’s directives will require revenue authorities to avoid unnecessary adjournments and to document reasons for any unavoidable delays. This initiative is expected to foster a more transparent and accountable system for land consolidation in Pakistan.
