Pakistan Sees Overseas Job Registrations Fall Below 2025 Projections

Overseas Job Registrations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has registered 427,435 workers for overseas employment in the first nine months of 2026, according to the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE). This figure indicates a significant decline compared to the post-pandemic highs, suggesting that the outflow of workers will remain consistent with levels seen over the past decade.

The BEOE’s data reveals that while the numbers are lower than the peak of 763,526 registrations recorded in previous years, the current pace reflects a stabilization in the labor market for overseas jobs. Officials have noted that the easing of registrations is a natural correction following the surge experienced during the pandemic recovery phase.

This trend has broader implications for Pakistan’s economy, particularly as many citizens rely on remittances from overseas employment to support their families and contribute to national economic stability. The decline in job registrations may raise concerns about the availability of opportunities for skilled and unskilled laborers, potentially impacting household incomes and overall economic growth.

Looking ahead, stakeholders in the labor market are expected to monitor these trends closely, with discussions anticipated around enhancing training programs and partnerships with foreign employers to boost overseas job opportunities. The government may also consider policy adjustments to better support workers seeking employment abroad.
