Govt Issues Crucial Document Advisory for Overseas Pakistani Workers

ISLAMABAD: The Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment has issued an urgent advisory directing all Pakistani citizens travelling abroad for employment to thoroughly verify their personal credentials across official and travel documents prior to departure. The government authority emphasized that accurate identification details, including full names and parental credentials, are vital to preventing administrative and legal complications in foreign jurisdictions.

According to official directives released by the regulatory body, discrepancies in names, father’s names, dates of birth, or national identity numbers across passports, identity cards, and foreign work visas frequently lead to severe legal and logistical hurdles overseas. The bureau stressed that a person’s name serves as the primary cornerstone of their legal identity, and even minor typographical errors can result in visa cancellation, immigration detention, or immediate deportation at international airports.

Hundreds of thousands of Pakistani workers travel annually to foreign labor markets, particularly across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Europe, and Southeast Asia, contributing billions of dollars to national remittances. However, regulatory authorities have increasingly observed cases where Pakistani emigrants face employment contract cancellations and extreme distress abroad due to mismatched documentation prepared by unverified recruitment agents or negligence during official application processes.

The Bureau of Immigration has instructed all prospective migrant workers to cross-check their official records with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports before finalizing their travel itineraries. Authorities further urged citizens to utilize registered overseas employment promoters and strictly avoid unaccredited recruiters to ensure secure processing and legal protection abroad.
