ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued a stern directive to banks, insisting on no leniency for those lagging in providing loans to farmers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and consumers under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Scheme. This announcement came during a review meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday.

The Apna Ghar Scheme, launched in April, aims to facilitate housing and construction loans of up to PKR 10 million with manageable repayment terms. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to stimulate economic growth by enhancing access to financial resources for key sectors.

During the meeting, Sharif emphasized the critical role of SMEs and agriculture in bolstering the economy, highlighting that timely financial support is essential for these sectors to thrive. He reiterated that banks must prioritize these loans to ensure that the intended beneficiaries can access the necessary funds without undue delay.

Looking ahead, the government plans to monitor the banks’ performance closely and may implement further measures to ensure compliance with these directives. The Prime Minister’s commitment to improving economic conditions through targeted financial assistance underscores the administration’s focus on sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
