Allama Iqbal Day

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that all public and private schools across the province will remain closed on November 9, 2023, in observance of Allama Iqbal Day, marking the birth anniversary of the national poet of Pakistan.

The notification was issued by the School Education and Literacy Department and shared on social media by the Sindh Information Department. It states, β€œIn pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the Steering Committee on Education held on February 12, all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department, government of Sindh, shall remain closed on November 9 on account of Allama Iqbal Day.”

This closure is significant as it allows students and educators to reflect on the contributions of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who is revered for his role in inspiring the Pakistan Movement and promoting the idea of a separate nation for Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. The day serves as a reminder of Iqbal’s literary and philosophical legacy, which continues to influence Pakistan’s cultural and political landscape.

Looking ahead, educational institutions are expected to resume normal operations on November 10, with various programs and activities planned to honor Iqbal’s legacy. Schools may also incorporate lessons about Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy into their curricula in the days leading up to the holiday.
