Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation Permanently Closes G-10 Bazaars for 11th Avenue Project

G-10 bazaars closure

ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has announced the permanent closure of the G-10 weekly bazaar and the exclusive ladies’ bazaar, effective immediately. This decision is part of the preparations for the construction of the 11th Avenue project, which has received approval from the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The MCI’s notification states that the bazaars, which were temporarily established, fall within the right of way for the new road. The CDA’s Development Working Party approved a PC-I worth Rs24.5 billion for the project, which will span 7.5 kilometers from Margalla Avenue to Karnal Sher Khan Road, featuring three lanes on each side and approximately 17 bridges and overpasses.

This closure impacts local vendors and shoppers who relied on these bazaars for their weekly shopping needs. The MCI has not yet provided an alternative location for the bazaars, raising concerns among the community about the loss of these vital economic spaces.

As construction progresses, officials have begun removing existing structures to clear the land. The project is expected to be completed within a year, significantly altering the landscape of the area and potentially improving traffic flow in Islamabad.
