IESCO Receives Final Notice for Over Rs. 1.5 Billion in Property Taxes
ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has issued a final notice to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) regarding unpaid property taxes that have now exceeded Rs. 1.5 billion. This substantial amount pertains to properties and open spaces owned by IESCO within the capital city, which have remained unpaid despite multiple reminders from the civic authority.
MCI officials have expressed concern over the accumulation of these dues, emphasizing that the corporation has made several attempts to resolve the matter amicably. “We have repeatedly notified IESCO about their outstanding tax obligations, but the lack of response has compelled us to take this final step,” stated a senior MCI representative.
The implications of this situation are significant, as the unpaid taxes could hinder the corporation’s ability to fund essential public services and infrastructure projects in Islamabad. Citizens may face repercussions if the financial strain leads to cuts in services or increased taxes for other residents to compensate for the shortfall.
Moving forward, MCI plans to escalate the issue if IESCO fails to respond to this final notice. The corporation is expected to hold a meeting next week to discuss potential legal actions and further steps to recover the outstanding dues.
