Naqvi and Kundi Discuss Potential Governor’s Rule Amid Security Concerns

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday to address the escalating political and security situation in the province, amid rising speculation regarding the imposition of governor’s rule.

During their discussions, both leaders expressed grave concerns over the potential for terrorists to exploit security vulnerabilities during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march towards Islamabad. A statement from the Governor’s House indicated that they concurred on the necessity for decisive action should the president and prime minister deem it essential to impose governor’s rule or declare a state of emergency to protect the province from terrorism and chaos.

The dialogue also touched upon the increasing unrest within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting the provincial government’s perceived failure to effectively negotiate counterterrorism measures, which they described as an act of ‘enmity’ towards the people of the province. This situation raises significant concerns about the safety and security of citizens as political tensions rise.

Looking ahead, both leaders are expected to continue their discussions on these pressing issues, with further meetings anticipated to address the ongoing unrest and the implications of the PTI’s march. The situation remains fluid, and the potential for governor’s rule could reshape the political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
