Documentary on Tragic K2 Expedition Gains Global Attention

GILGIT: The documentary ‘The Last First: Winter K2’ has been released, chronicling the tragic 2021 winter expedition on K2 that claimed the lives of renowned Pakistani climber Mohammad Ali Sadpara, Iceland’s John Snorri, and Chile’s Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto. This film aims to shed light on the harrowing events surrounding their attempt to summit the world’s second-highest peak during winter.

Sajid Ali Sadpara, the son of the late climber, announced at a press conference in Skardu that the documentary has received international acclaim, including recognition at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. He revealed that it is now available for streaming on Apple TV as of October 2, making it accessible to a global audience.

As the documentary gains traction, it is expected to inspire discussions about the risks associated with high-altitude climbing and the legacy of those who have lost their lives in pursuit of such endeavors. Future screenings and discussions are anticipated to further engage audiences in the narrative of K2’s treacherous allure.
