Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud Sees Realistic Path to World Test Championship Final

DHaka: Fast-rising pace bowler Hasan Mahmud expressed optimism on Monday about Bangladesh’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship final, following their impressive performance in recent matches.

Bangladesh currently sits fourth in the World Test Championship standings after a surprising nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin this past August. This win has underscored the progress made by a team historically viewed as underachievers in Test cricket. “The momentum is coming towards us, definitely,” Hasan, 26, stated in an interview with AFP.

Hasan emphasized that the current atmosphere within the team is conducive to dominating in Test cricket, a feat they have struggled to achieve in the past. He played a pivotal role in the victory against Australia, taking 6 wickets for 55 runs. “We haven’t dominated (in Test cricket). Now is the time,” he added, highlighting the potential for future successes.

With six Tests remaining in the current World Test Championship cycle, including home series against the West Indies and England, as well as a tour of South Africa, Hasan believes that winning four matches at home could secure their place in the final. “If we win four matches at home, why shouldn’t we play in the World Test Championship final? That’s the dream for Bangladesh,” he concluded.
