Pakistani Students No Longer Need MDCAT for Medical Studies Abroad
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani students aspiring to pursue medical or dental education abroad will no longer be required to pass the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), as announced by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Monday.
The PMDC’s decision, communicated through a notice on X, was made during a meeting held on September 14. The council stated that it has exempted the MDCAT as a prerequisite for Pakistani students seeking admission into foreign medical and dental institutions.
While the PMDC notice did not provide specific reasons for this significant change, PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj indicated to Dawn that the move aims to facilitate greater access to international educational opportunities for Pakistani students.
This exemption is expected to have broad implications for students, potentially increasing the number of Pakistani candidates applying to foreign institutions, thereby enhancing their educational prospects and career opportunities in the medical field.
