Pakistan’s Services Exports Surge 29% Driven by IT Sector Growth
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s services exports have experienced a remarkable growth of 28.89 percent year-on-year in the first two months of the fiscal year 2026-27, primarily fueled by increased earnings from the information technology sector.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), services exports have shown consistent growth since the beginning of FY27, contrasting with the mixed performance seen in goods exports. In absolute terms, services exports reached $1.81 billion during July-August FY27, a significant increase from $1.41 billion during the same period last year. Notably, in August alone, services exports rose by 28.97 percent to $873.01 million, up from $676.91 million in August 2025.
The growth has been largely driven by the telecommunications, computer, and information services sectors, which saw exports increase by 17.36 percent to $811 million in the first two months of FY27, compared to $691 million a year earlier. Additionally, exports of other business services surged by 38.62 percent to $420 million, while transport services exports rose by 35.87 percent to $178 million.
This robust growth in services exports is a positive indicator for Pakistan’s economy, suggesting a shift towards a more service-oriented economic structure. As the government continues to promote the IT sector, stakeholders are optimistic about sustaining this upward trend. Looking ahead, industry experts anticipate further developments in policy support and investment in technology that could enhance the sector’s growth trajectory.
