Ogra Announces 8% Hike in LPG Prices Ahead of Winter Season

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has announced an eight percent increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, effective October, raising the cost of the 11.8kg domestic cylinder by Rs244.14. This adjustment comes as a response to rising global market prices ahead of the winter season.

In its notification, Ogra set the price of LPG at Rs279.34 per kg for October, up from Rs258.64 per kg in September, marking an increase of approximately Rs21 per kg. Consequently, the price of the 11.8kg domestic cylinder is now Rs3,296.23, compared to Rs3,052.09 in the previous month.

This price adjustment reflects Ogra’s calculation of the producer price of LPG, which consists of 40% propane and 60% butane, now pegged at Rs238,041.49 per tonne for October, up from Rs217,351.52 in September. The new pricing structure incorporates an excise duty of Rs85 per tonne, along with other levies that contribute to the overall cost.

As the winter season approaches, this increase in LPG prices is expected to impact households significantly, particularly in regions reliant on LPG for heating and cooking. Consumers may face heightened financial pressure as they prepare for colder months. Ogra’s decision underscores the ongoing volatility in global energy markets, prompting further scrutiny of domestic energy policies and potential government interventions.
