Consumer Court Orders Easypaisa to Refund Rs40,000 for Unauthorized Transfers
PESHAWAR: A consumer court has mandated Easypaisa to refund Rs40,000 to a customer following unauthorized transfers from his account. The ruling, issued by Consumer Court Judge Nasrullah Khan Gandapur, also requires the company to pay Rs25,000 in damages to the complainant, Fahadul Rehman, along with an additional Rs25,000 fine to the government.
The case arose when Rehman reported that funds were withdrawn from his Easypaisa account without his consent. The court’s decision underscores the importance of consumer rights and the accountability of financial service providers in Pakistan. Judge Gandapur emphasized that such unauthorized transactions undermine public trust in digital financial systems.
This ruling may have broader implications for the fintech industry in Pakistan, where digital transactions are becoming increasingly common. It highlights the necessity for companies like Easypaisa to enhance their security measures and customer service protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As Easypaisa prepares to comply with the court’s order, industry experts anticipate that this case could prompt regulatory bodies to review existing consumer protection laws and possibly implement stricter regulations on digital financial services.
