SECP Launches Low-Cost Passive Equity Sub-Fund for Pension Savers in 2027

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has announced the introduction of a Passive Equity Sub-Fund under the Voluntary Pension Scheme (VPS), set to provide pension savers with a cost-effective avenue for stock market investment starting January 1, 2027.

This initiative aims to enhance the investment landscape for pension fund managers, who will be required to offer this new sub-fund alongside existing options such as Equity and Debt funds. The SECP’s move is expected to democratize access to equity markets for a broader segment of the population, making it easier for individuals to grow their retirement savings.

The introduction of the Passive Equity Sub-Fund is significant as it aligns with global trends towards low-cost investment solutions, potentially increasing participation in the stock market among pension savers. This could lead to a more robust financial ecosystem in Pakistan, fostering greater economic stability and growth.

As the launch date approaches, stakeholders are encouraged to prepare for the transition, with fund managers expected to provide detailed information on the new sub-fund’s features and benefits. The SECP will likely hold informational sessions to guide pension savers on how to take advantage of this new investment opportunity.
