Primoz Roglic Clinches European Time-Trial Title in Slovenia

SENCUR: Primoz Roglic secured the European Championships time-trial title on Wednesday, triumphing on home soil in Slovenia. The reigning Tour de France champion clocked a remarkable performance, finishing the 22km course with a time that outpaced French competitor Bruno Armirail by 6.59 seconds, while compatriot Maxime Decomble took third place.

Roglic, 36, capitalized on the absence of notable rivals, including world and Olympic time-trial champion Remco Evenepoel and Italian specialist Filippo Ganna. The enthusiastic support from local fans added to the atmosphere as he raced through Sencur. “It’s simply a great feeling. Of course, it’s my victory, but it’s also for all the people along the course and everyone who made it possible for the European Championships to take place in Slovenia,” Roglic expressed after his win.

This victory marks a significant moment for Slovenian cycling, especially with the absence of recent world championship medallists, including French prodigy Paul Seixas, who opted to prepare for the upcoming Tour of Lombardy instead. Meanwhile, in the women’s race, world champion Marlen Reusser continued her dominance by winning the European title for the fifth consecutive year.

Looking ahead, Roglic’s victory not only boosts his confidence but also elevates Slovenia’s status in the cycling world. As the cycling season progresses, fans and analysts will be keenly watching Roglic’s performance in future competitions, including the upcoming one-day classics.
