Norris Optimistic McLaren Can Compete for Podium in Singapore Grand Prix
SINGAPORE: World champion Lando Norris expressed confidence on Thursday that McLaren can once again challenge for a podium finish at the Singapore Grand Prix, following a challenging period in the last two races in Malaysia and Azerbaijan.
Norris, who has fond memories of the Marina Bay Street Circuit where he secured victory in 2024 and podium finishes in 2023 and 2022, believes the team has identified and addressed the issues that hampered their performance in recent races. After a stellar run in July and August, where he clinched back-to-back wins in Hungary and the Netherlands, Norris has struggled to replicate that form, managing only one podium finish in Spain last month.
The lack of straight-line speed has been a significant concern for McLaren, resulting in a disappointing haul of just two points from the last four races. Norris remains hopeful that the team can turn their fortunes around this weekend, especially with the added challenges of a sprint race and potential rain in the forecast.
As the team prepares for the hot and humid conditions of Singapore, Norris stated, βItβll be good to see this weekend if some of that performance that we were missing does come back,β indicating a renewed sense of optimism as they aim to reclaim their competitive edge.
