Trump Clarifies Misinterpreted Remarks on California Cities Amid Gas Price Debate

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump clarified on Thursday that his recent comments suggesting Iran could ‘take out’ California cities were misinterpreted, asserting he was actually addressing the need for Americans to accept higher gas prices as a wartime sacrifice.

During a political rally in Nebraska on Monday, Trump stated, ‘It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, for keeping our country safe,’ referencing the ongoing tensions with Iran. His remarks, which included a provocative suggestion that cities like Los Angeles and San Diego could be targeted, drew immediate backlash from California’s Democratic leaders and some Republicans.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained, ‘What I was talking about was that a temporary increase in the price of gasoline is a small price to pay for Iran not having a nuclear weapon.’ He emphasized the potential consequences of a nuclear attack, stating, ‘If they bombed San Diego and/or Los Angeles, can you imagine what it would be like?’

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the upcoming elections, Trump’s comments may influence public sentiment regarding national security and economic policies. Analysts suggest that the discourse surrounding gas prices and international threats will remain a focal point in his campaign strategy.
