Pakistan Positions Itself as Honest Broker in US-Iran Relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has asserted that the country is acting as an “honest broker” in mediating tensions between the United States and Iran, emphasizing a commitment to achieving a “negotiated and peaceful” resolution.

In an interview with CNN correspondent Ivan Watson, Lt Gen Chaudhry addressed concerns regarding Pakistan’s neutrality, particularly in light of Iran’s past actions against Saudi Arabia and its current alliances. He stated, “Pakistan has been exhibiting that we are a very honest broker … everything stems from honesty. We have been very clear on where Pakistan stands with all our partners.” He noted that Pakistan condemned both Israeli attacks on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory actions in the Gulf.

This declaration comes at a time when regional dynamics are increasingly complex, with Pakistan seeking to maintain its diplomatic balance amid escalating tensions. The role of Pakistan as a mediator could have significant implications for regional stability and international relations, particularly in the context of its relationships with both the US and Iran.

Looking ahead, Pakistan’s continued engagement in diplomatic discussions may pave the way for future negotiations. The international community will be watching closely as Pakistan navigates its role in this high-stakes geopolitical landscape.
