Pakistan and Turkiye Sign Strategic Pact to Fight Terrorism and Crime
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye signed a comprehensive security agreement on Friday to significantly bolster bilateral cooperation in countering terrorism, illicit narcotics trafficking, and organized transnational crime. As part of this strategic alliance, both brotherly nations agreed to establish a dedicated Joint Working Group aimed at institutionalizing structured collaboration, streamlining operational intelligence, and deepening liaison between their respective interior ministries.
The formal agreement was finalized during a high-level bilateral meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi at the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Istanbul. According to official details released by the Interior Ministry’s media wing in Islamabad, both leaders held detailed discussions on regional security dynamics, joint counter-terrorism strategies, and modern capacity building. Both dignitaries emphasized that unified institutional cooperation is indispensable to neutralizing complex threats facing both nations.
Under the newly established framework, Pakistan and Turkiye will actively share technical assistance, launch expert exchange programs, and execute joint initiatives across vital policing domains. The accord specifically targets operational enhancements in cyber policing, capacity building for Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), and institutional training partnerships through the National Police Academy. This expanded security roadmap reflects the deep-rooted historical relations between Islamabad and Ankara while addressing modern law enforcement imperatives.
Moving forward, the newly announced Joint Working Group will meet periodically to oversee the execution of the treaty’s core parameters. Senior officials from both security establishments are expected to finalize upcoming exchange visits, develop specialized counter-narcotics protocols, and establish real-time coordination mechanisms. This sustained institutional engagement aims to build resilient law enforcement capabilities, safeguard regional stability, and reinforce the enduring diplomatic partnership between the two nations.
