KP Governor Kundi Demands CM Resignation Over Escalating Security Failures

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the provincial leadership over rising insecurity and administrative neglect, advising the chief minister to resign if his government cannot protect its own ministers and safeguard public resources. Addressing a high-stakes press conference in Peshawar, the governor accused the provincial administration of turning a blind eye to deteriorating governance, escalating terrorism, and mounting public grievances across the province.

Governor Kundi emphasized that constitutional mechanisms remain intact, warning that governor’s rule could be imposed whenever the President and the Prime Minister deem it appropriate under the law. He urged the provincial government to carefully study the Constitution to understand the defined authority and oversight responsibilities of the governor’s office. Reasserting his statutory role, Kundi affirmed that he would continue summoning the provincial chief secretary and the inspector general of police whenever necessary to address urgent law and order concerns.

The sharp exchange comes amid an intensifying security crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant attacks targeting security personnel, civilians, and political representatives have surged in recent months. Political observers note that the deepening rift between the federal-aligned governor and the provincial cabinet risks destabilizing regional administration at a time when unified counter-terrorism strategies are urgently needed. Kundi stressed that terrorism remains the paramount challenge confronting the province, warning that political apathy directly compromises public safety.

Following the governor’s stern warnings, political tensions in Peshawar are expected to escalate, with the provincial cabinet likely to issue a formal rebuttal. Meanwhile, high-level consultations between federal authorities and security agencies are anticipated in the coming days to assess the overall stability and law enforcement readiness in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
