PM Shehbaz and Fazl Discuss Reducing Tensions Between Federal and KP Governments
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a telephone conversation with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam—Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday, focusing on alleviating tensions between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial administration.
During the call, the Prime Minister congratulated Fazl on his recent Umrah pilgrimage and extended an invitation for further discussions at the Prime Minister’s House. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that Fazl accepted the invitation, with a meeting anticipated to take place soon.
This dialogue comes in the wake of recent interactions between Fazl and various political factions, highlighting his role as a mediator amid ongoing political strife. Previous negotiations, particularly the talks held on October 3 aimed at reconciling differences between the Centre and the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP), ended in a deadlock, underscoring the urgent need for constructive dialogue.
Looking ahead, the upcoming meeting between Shehbaz and Fazl is expected to address critical issues affecting governance and cooperation between the federal and provincial governments, which could have significant implications for political stability in the region.
