HEC and National CERT Collaborate to Enhance University Cybersecurity

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has partnered with the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) to bolster cybersecurity measures across universities in the country. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Tuesday, aiming to enhance the digital security framework within academic institutions.

HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “In an increasingly digital world, it is imperative that our educational institutions are equipped with robust cybersecurity protocols to protect sensitive data and maintain the integrity of academic operations.” The MoU outlines a framework for training, resource sharing, and the development of cybersecurity policies tailored for universities.

This partnership comes at a crucial time as educational institutions face rising threats from cyberattacks, which can compromise student data and disrupt academic activities. By strengthening cybersecurity measures, the HEC and National CERT aim to create a safer digital environment for students and faculty alike, fostering trust in the educational system.

Looking ahead, both organizations plan to conduct workshops and training sessions for university staff and students to raise awareness about cybersecurity risks and best practices. The first of these sessions is expected to take place next month, marking the beginning of a comprehensive approach to safeguarding Pakistan’s educational institutions against cyber threats.
