Police Disrupt PTI Meeting in Swabi Amid Governor’s Rule Enforcement

SWABI: Police conducted a series of raids in various areas of Swabi on Sunday to prevent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers from holding a scheduled meeting in the Shewa Adda area of Razaar tehsil. The meeting, which was set to feature former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, was thwarted due to the recent imposition of governor’s rule and a state of emergency in the province.

Sources indicate that despite the police presence, some PTI leaders encouraged workers to gather at the Razaar Sports Complex in Shewa Adda. The crackdown by law enforcement began following the declaration of emergency measures, with police intensifying patrols in Shewa Adda and surrounding areas to deter any potential gatherings of PTI supporters.

This police action reflects the tense political climate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the imposition of governor’s rule has raised concerns about civil liberties and the right to assemble. The deployment of a significant number of police personnel at key locations, including Karnal Sher Khan Chowk and the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, underscores the government’s determination to suppress dissent and maintain order amidst escalating political tensions.

Looking ahead, it remains to be seen how PTI will respond to these developments and whether further gatherings will be attempted. The political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to remain volatile as the party navigates the challenges posed by the current governance structure.
