Pakistan Warns Afghan Taliban Regime Over Inaction Against Cross-Border Terror
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has issued a stern warning to the interim Afghan Taliban administration in Kabul, cautioning that its persistent failure to neutralize militant sanctuaries operating from Afghan soil against Pakistani security forces and civilians will result in severe consequences. High-level security officials affirmed that Islamabad’s patience has run out following a fresh surge in cross-border violence targeting border posts and civilian areas.
According to official statements from diplomatic and military leaders, cross-border attacks orchestrated by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have escalated sharply across frontier districts. Despite repeated high-level demarches, intelligence dossiers, and diplomatic engagements urging Kabul to dismantle terror infrastructure, the Taliban regime has failed to take concrete action. Officials emphasized that while Pakistan strongly desires regional tranquility, it retains the sovereign right under international law to protect its borders and people against hostile elements operating with impunity.
The deteriorating security posture highlights a deepening rift in bilateral relations between the neighboring nations since the Taliban reclaimed power in 2021. Persistent militant incursions continue to jeopardize stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, threatening civilian lives and critical infrastructure projects. Furthermore, the rising tensions risk disrupting vital transit trade corridors, border management protocols, and broader regional connectivity initiatives aimed at linking South Asia with Central Asia.
Looking ahead, Pakistan’s civil-military leadership is reportedly evaluating a range of defensive and strategic options to counter cross-border threats, including enhanced border fencing surveillance and targeted counter-terrorism operations. Islamabad is also set to highlight Kabul’s non-compliance with the Doha Agreement at upcoming multilateral security summits, while calling on international stakeholders to exert diplomatic pressure on the Taliban regime to eradicate terrorist safe havens.
