Dr Waseem Qazi Given Additional Charge as VC Karachi Metropolitan University

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has formally assigned University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Waseem Qazi the additional charge of Acting Vice Chancellor at Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU). The high-level administrative decision aims to ensure governance continuity, structural stability, and operational efficiency across the metropolitan public sector higher education institution with immediate effect.

According to an official notification released by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Dr. Qazi will hold the supplementary charge alongside his existing duties at the University of Karachi until further orders. Academic circles and administrative staff at KMU have welcomed the decision, pointing to Dr. Qazi’s long-standing leadership record and technical expertise in managing complex educational frameworks throughout the province.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for higher education governance in Karachi, where administrative vacancies and transitional delays have frequently hampered academic schedules and institutional development. Senior educationists note that entrusting an experienced academic chief with dual leadership will streamline policy implementation, address faculty concerns, and facilitate crucial decision-making processes for students and staff members alike.

In the coming days, Dr. Qazi is slated to convene executive briefing sessions with departmental heads, deans, and senior faculty at Karachi Metropolitan University to review ongoing academic programs and administrative infrastructure. The Sindh Department of Universities and Boards is expected to continue its formal search process for appointing a permanent Vice Chancellor in accordance with provincial higher education statutes.
