LHC Orders Jail to Provide Heart Medication to Imran Khan’s Sister Uzma

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed jail authorities to ensure that Dr. Uzma Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, receives her necessary heart medication while in detention. This ruling came during a hearing on Monday concerning the preventive detention of Imran’s sisters, who have been held under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) for nearly three weeks.

Uzma, along with her sister Noreen, was detained on September 21, just ahead of a planned protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Their detention followed that of their sister Aleema, who was taken into custody a day earlier. During the court session, Uzma’s husband, Ahad Khan, expressed concerns regarding her health, stating that she requires three specific medications daily to manage her heart condition.

This development highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the PTI and its leadership, as the party faces increasing scrutiny and legal challenges. The detention of Imran Khan’s family members raises questions about the government’s approach to dissent and public order, particularly in the context of political protests and civil liberties.

The court’s decision to mandate the provision of medication is a critical step in addressing health concerns for detainees. As the legal proceedings continue, further hearings are expected, with the potential for additional petitions regarding the detention of other family members and supporters of the PTI.
