Shaza Fatima Advocates Comprehensive Approach to Children’s Internet Use

ISLAMABAD: Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, emphasized that merely imposing restrictions on children’s internet usage is not a viable solution to the challenges posed by the digital landscape. Speaking at a recent seminar, she highlighted the need for a more holistic approach that includes education and awareness.

During her address, Fatima stated, “While restrictions can be a part of the solution, they cannot address the root causes of the issues children face online. We must equip our youth with the skills to navigate the internet safely and responsibly.” Her comments come amid growing concerns over online safety and the mental health impacts of excessive screen time among children.

The implications of Fatima’s stance are significant, as they suggest a shift towards fostering digital literacy rather than solely relying on punitive measures. This approach could lead to more informed and resilient young internet users, ultimately benefiting society as a whole. Experts agree that empowering children with knowledge about online risks and safe practices is crucial in today’s digital age.

Looking ahead, the government plans to initiate workshops and campaigns aimed at educating both parents and children about safe internet practices. These initiatives are expected to roll out in the coming months, with the goal of creating a safer online environment for the younger generation.
