Islamabad Authorities Begin Removing Protest Containers Amid Payment Demands

ISLAMABAD: Following the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Islamabad capital police have initiated the removal of containers that were deployed last month to obstruct the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march and protest. The decision comes as authorities aim to restore normalcy in the capital.

The All Pakistan Goods Alliance has raised concerns, demanding assurances of payment before the containers are removed. Chairman Nisar Hussain emphasized the need for financial guarantees, as the police had previously requested over Rs820 million to manage the protest-related expenses, which included container rentals and police accommodations.

Approximately 1,550 containers were brought into Islamabad, with police seizing 1,077 of them to facilitate their operations against the PTI’s demonstrations. The presence of these containers has significantly impacted traffic and daily life in the capital, prompting calls for their removal to ease congestion and restore order.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will address the financial demands of the All Pakistan Goods Alliance and whether further actions will be taken to manage the ongoing political tensions. The capital police are also expected to send back police personnel from Rawalpindi to their respective districts, indicating a potential scaling down of the heightened security measures.
