Sindh United Party Criticizes Ban on Rallies, Warns of Constitutional Drift

SUKKUR: The Sindh United Party has condemned the recent ban on political rallies, asserting that Pakistan is experiencing structural changes that threaten the foundational principles of its Constitution. Syed Zain Shah, addressing members of the Sukkur District Bar Association on Monday, emphasized the need for adherence to constitutional integrity amidst ongoing political discourse.

Mr. Shah articulated concerns regarding the implications of current discussions that deviate from the original spirit of the Constitution. He highlighted that Article 239 does not provide for the creation of new provinces, suggesting that any debate on constitutional matters must respect the fundamental principles established at the nation’s inception.

Shah warned that the ongoing changes should not be perceived merely as administrative reforms but rather as shifts with significant long-term consequences for provincial autonomy and governance. He criticized attempts to undermine provincial governments through local government systems, raising alarms about the potential erosion of provincial powers.

Looking ahead, the Sindh United Party plans to mobilize support for its stance on constitutional rights and provincial autonomy, urging citizens to remain vigilant against any actions that may infringe upon their democratic rights. The party is expected to hold further discussions and rallies to advocate for these issues in the coming weeks.
