Lahore Traffic Police Propose Mandatory Side-View Mirrors for Motorcycles
LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police have formally requested the Punjab government to mandate the installation of side-view mirrors on all motorcycles, citing a significant rise in road accidents attributed to improper signaling and careless lane changes. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi submitted the proposal in a letter addressed to the Secretary of Industries Punjab, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
In his correspondence, CTO Shirazi highlighted that the absence of side-view mirrors contributes to a lack of awareness among motorcyclists regarding their surroundings, leading to frequent collisions. He noted that many accidents occur due to riders failing to signal their intentions or changing lanes without proper visibility. The proposal aims to address these issues by making side-view mirrors a standard feature on all motorcycles.
This initiative could significantly improve road safety in Lahore, where motorcycle usage is prevalent. With the city grappling with high traffic accident rates, the introduction of mandatory side-view mirrors may reduce the number of incidents and enhance overall traffic management. Experts believe that such regulations could also encourage responsible riding habits among motorcyclists.
Looking ahead, the Punjab government is expected to review the proposal in upcoming sessions, with discussions likely to focus on the feasibility of implementing this regulation. If approved, the initiative could pave the way for further safety enhancements in the region’s traffic laws.
