Dar Affirms Cabinet’s Decision to Halt Political Reconciliation with PTI

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Tuesday that the federal cabinet has “rightly decided” to conclude the process of political reconciliation with the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This statement came during a Senate session following the recent imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a state of emergency in twelve districts, attributed to the provincial government’s alleged disengagement from combating terrorism.

Dar’s remarks followed President Zardari’s proclamations of emergency and governor’s rule under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, which were issued on Sunday. He emphasized that the decision was made in light of the pressing security situation in the province, where the federal government cited a lack of cooperation from the provincial authorities in addressing rising terrorist threats.

The cessation of reconciliation efforts with PTI marks a significant shift in the political landscape, potentially escalating tensions between the ruling coalition and the opposition. Analysts suggest that this decision could lead to further polarization in Pakistani politics, impacting governance and public sentiment as the country grapples with security challenges and economic instability.

Looking ahead, the government is expected to focus on stabilizing the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while navigating the complex political dynamics with PTI. Future discussions in the Senate and potential legislative actions regarding security measures are anticipated as the government seeks to address both political and security concerns.
