Karachi Endures Sweltering Heat as Temperatures Climb to 38.7°C

KARACHI: The city of Karachi is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures, reaching 38.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, accompanied by a humidity level of 43 percent, creating uncomfortable conditions for residents.

A spokesperson from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) noted that October is typically characterized as a warm month in Karachi, often referred to as the city’s ‘second summer.’ The recent spike in temperatures is attributed to a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, which has diminished wind activity and led to the current heatwave. The official cautioned that if this trend persists, temperatures could escalate to 40°C.

This rise in temperature, combined with elevated humidity, poses challenges for daily life in Karachi, particularly during the daytime when the heat is most intense. Residents are advised to take precautions to mitigate heat-related health risks, as the discomfort can affect productivity and overall well-being.

Looking ahead, the PMD will continue to monitor weather patterns closely, and residents are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes in the forecast. Authorities may issue further advisories if conditions worsen, particularly as the city transitions from summer to cooler months.
